Teams continued the third round of the Race in Cartagena, Colombia where professional athletes, Brodie & Kurt put their skills into full gear to finish in first place.

Things were different for Darius & Cameron from the start. After being the last team to leave Pit Start, the brothers remained in this last place and resulted in being eliminated.

This round was filled with much chaos. Teams were sent to Plaza San Diego on foot, for the first clue. At this point, Brodie yelled and waved down a taxi impatiently, enough for Kurt to think that his teammate was scaring off the taxis.

“Our biggest flaw is going too fast,” Brodie said.

Next was to proceed to Castillo San Felipe De Barajas, where teams had to enter the underground tunnels of the stone fortress to search for the clue box. Although it didn’t seem to take the teams too long to reach their next clue, the tight space didn’t settle as well as it did for others. As Erin & Joslyn entered the castle’s maze, Erin instantly began to have trouble breathing and noted the fact that she was claustrophobic.

Teams then had to continue their way to a Detour: Tickets or Tejo. Tickets meant that teams would get on a local bus and persuade people on the streets to ride. Contestants would then collect each bus fare of 1,800 pesos and continue until they collected a total of 20,000 pesos. Whereas, Tejo (Colombia’s traditional sport) involved a three-pound metal disc that had to be tossed at gunpowder-laden clay targets (similar to cornhole, but explosive). Teams had to hit the target three times in order to receive the next clue.

Here, Brodie & Kurt took hold of first place in no time with Tejo. Tyler & Korey were then placed in second after Tyler was left jumpy from the loud noises of the discs striking the target.

“Just a couple of dudes being bros, just a couple of bros being jocks,” Tyler said.

Besides these two teams, Tejo was performed by Dana & Matt, Burnie & Ashley, Brittany & Jessica, Sheri & Cole and Darius & Cameron. The gaming couple, Burnie & Ashley, ranked third place here.

Zach & Rachel, Erin & Joslyn and Scott & Blair chose tickets. While her father collected each bus fare,Erin-Joslyn-Amazing-Race-RoccoReport-CBS Blair had no trouble in persuading passengers as she yelled “Beso de pesos,” meaning “kisses for pesos.”

Likewise, Erin & Joslyn enjoyed smiling and yelling out to locals to join their lively personas on the bus. Before they knew it, the talk show hosts had gathered enough pesos to continue on.

Zach & Rachel, on the other hand, got caught in traffic and continued the Detour with further time restraints. They hopped in a taxi after Rachel had thought she counted 20,000 pesos. After double-checking the coin bag, they were short. The couple had to go back on a bus to finish up the task.

Next up was to head over to Calle San Juan De Dios. After ripping the clue, teams were assigned a Roadblock: “Who’s left holding the bag?” First, they had to choose a bright-colored bag, known as a mochila. Then, they had to continue searching other vendors for two additional bags by the same designer, located in a certain part of the city.

After overcoming the bag search, teams ran over to the Pit Stop to meet Phil at Baluarte De Santiago. He rewarded Brodie & Kurt with first place, along with a trip to Greece.

The Amazing Race is down to nine teams. Check in with CBS on Friday for round four. Like Burnie said when comparing the Race to a game,

“In games, checkpoints are like save points. Here, checkpoints are how you get eliminated.”
